My love for poetry

I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this. I have loved poetry every since my 3rd grade teacher made me learn and recite “The Owl and the Pussycat” by Edward Lear. It was such a nonsensical poem and perfect for a 3rd grader. I loved it. I loved the way the words would flow and rhyme. Ever since that day, I have never stopped reading poetry or collecting them. I even attempted to write some back in the day, with a few good ones coming out.

For me, reading poetry takes me to a different time and place. It seems to be the most effective to feel what may be in person’s heart and you can feel the poet’s emotions flowing through the words. It’s a very powerful means of expression. As a extension to my poetry collection, I also like to collect lyrics.

It seems futile now that I have so many poetry books since I can search for almost any poem on the internet. But I still love flipping through my books or my notebooks, and realising that I’ve read some poems more often than others. It takes me back again to a different time and place.
